Bykovo international airport began operations in 1933 and is one of the oldest airports in Russia. The Bykovo Russia building was added in 1975 with waiting rooms, arrivals and departures boards showing flight schedules. Recently, Bykovo Airport opened a new international terminal, allowing for 100 passengers per hour to be processed. The general capacity for an airport is approximately 350 passengers per hour.
Today, Bykovo airport allows light passenger traffic in addition to small air cargo vessels. International flights, typically on Russian aircraft such as the Yak-42, allow for travel to surrounding countries. Bykovo airport also operates as a modern center of business aviation for aircraft owners and passengers to use air taxi services. The Bykovo airport landing area can hold more than 50 aircraft at the same time. The airport offers low fees for airlines and good basic services for aircraft.
Bykovo Russia primarily services domestic traffic, connecting Moscow with the other large industrial centers of Russia and offering charter flights. The airport services are also used by many important frequent travelers, regional leaders and business and political representatives.
Free parking for cars is provided and there is also an area for heavier vehicles that serve the needs of the cargo terminal.
Bykovo airport is 15 km from MKAD and 35 km from Moscow. It can be reached by car from the Ryazansk highway or by bus or electric train from the Kazan' station (“Komsomol” metro station).
