General information and description of the airport

Moscow Sheremetyevo International airport, Moscow SVO, is  the only class A airport in the Russian Federation. There are three places designated Moscow SVO, Sheremetyevo 1, Sheremetyevo 2 and Sheremetyevo 3 which together annually service about 14 million passengers. The Sheremetyevo airport serves the regions of Russia and Europe as well as countries more distant, the Americas, Africa, and Asia.

A Sheremetyevo airport transfer (SVO airport transfer) will provide transportation for the 11 km from MKAD or the 29 km from the center of Moscow, along the Leningrad highway (high-speed highway M-10).

If you prefer taxis Sheremetyevo Airport can be reached easily from the center of the city. You may also reach the airport by public transportation, just transfer pick up SVO Sheremetyevo by electric train out of the city. Parking at the airport is available if you are driving a private car.

 

Terminals of the airport: Sheremetyevo Airport -1, Sheremetyevo Airport- 2, and Sheremetyevo Airport - 3

The landing strips lie between the three terminals where passengers await their flights or pass through SVO Sheremetyevo customs control and document processing before departure and after arrival. Sheremetyevo Airport -1 services exclusively domestic travel voyages. Transfer Sheremetyevo Moscow to the new terminal

Sheremetyevo Airport - 3 where international travel.

Sheremetyevo Airport -2, from where only international voyages are carried out. Between the terminals there are buses and taxi routes, and also free buses for transfer Sheremetyevo Moscow passengers.

 

Check in

Check in for domestic travel (SVO Sheremetyevo – 2) begins 2 hours prior to departure and ends 30 minutes prior to takeoff. For international travel (Sheremetyevo 1 and Sheremetyevo 3) check in begins 2 hours 40 minutes and ends 40 minutes before departure. All the terminals have special provisions and medical aid stations for assisting passengers who need medical attention or who have special needs.

Moscow Sheremetyevo first-class and business passengers may check in anytime at a separate counter. A VIP lounge is available for those waiting at an additional charge. There are two separate areas in the lounge, smoking and non-smoking, both of which provide Sheremetyevo Airport passengers the latest news, in print and on television in the Russian, English and German languages. Food and beverages, including alcoholic, can be purchased and airport aides accompany VIP-lounge customers to the boarding area of the aircraft.

 

SVO Sheremetyevo – Airport Services

Both Sheremetyevo Airport -1 and Sheremetyevo Airport -2 provide areas for storing luggage that are available twenty-four hours, free rooms for mothers traveling with children, including nap areas, visitors rooms, changing stations for small children, and rest rooms. Sheremetyevo Airport has many stores including drugstores, currency exchange offices, postal services, newspaper stands, and Duty Free stores. It is also possible to purchase tickets, to order a taxi, and use a public telephone.

 

Parking

Near the SVO Sheremetyevo Airport terminals are six parking lots, one multistory parking. Standing a car is allowed up to 15 minutes with longer periods requiring paid parking. There are long-term lots where payment for twenty-four hour periods is less than hourly rates.

 

Hotels

The airport is adjacent to two hotels, the Sheremetyevo Airport Hotel, built for the 1980 Olympics. The hotel has 500 moderately priced rooms and is rated 3 stars, with many amenities in addition to regular services (taxis, bank machine, laundry , dry cleaning, safe and luggage storage, business- center, Internet access, and travel bureau). The cost includes one meal per day (breakfast, lunch or supper, at the customer’s choice). Another hotel not far from SVO Sheremetyevo is Novotel, with a higher, 4 star rating, and 516 rooms.
